(EVANSVILLE) - As members of the National Guard train for deployment to Iraq, commanders are locating resources which will provide support to the families that are left behind.

Among those resources, are the family readiness groups, which are located at each armory. Lieutenant Colonel Tommy Thombleson says the guard will organize and support these units.

The addition of the unit in Indianapolis is part of a much larger realignment, which will lead to a change next month, in the local unit number, which changes from the 1st/152nd to the 1st/151nd.

Thombleson says the public can best support the troops, by supporting the family readiness groups or better yet, become a member.

Members of the guard received preliminary notice of deployment, earlier in the year...but information related to the official orders was first made public Monday morning.

In the upcoming weeks and months, guard members will likely be exposed to additional deployment-related training exercises.
