Evansville Neighborhood Begins Arsenic And Lead Cleanup

(EVANSVILLE) - Cleanup will begin on Evansville’s Jacobsville neighborhood in a matter of days.

The federal EPA and Indiana Department of Environmental Management have identified high levels of arsenic and lead in the soils of most of the properties in the neighborhood and will begin removing the contaminants in October.

Kevin Turner is the project manager and says that the process will not cost any taxpayer money. Turner says the monies are provided by the EPA's "superfund" and the 36 properties that have been identified as the highest priority will be on top of the list of sites to cleanup.

The soil on the properties has to be removed as far as 12-inches down and taken to a landfill... then new soil is brought in to replace it.
