(UNDATED) - The Traffic Safety Division of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute says field surveys done during May’s Click It Or Ticket blitz show seat belt use in the state is at an all time high.

The surveys show seat belt use at just under 88 percent--that's up nearly four percentage points from last year.

Women are better belt users than men. Over 93 percent of female drivers buckle up, as compared to just 82 percent for males.

Institute Executive Director Mike Cunegin says he believes the education done by his and other groups has helped to increase seat belt use as well as increased enforcement by police agencies.

He's now hoping to see a corresponding drop in the number of highway deaths and injuries.
