Child Passenger Safety Week Increases Patrols

(UNDATED) - It’s “Child Passenger Safety Week.”

Over the next few days, motorists will see stepped up patrols by state and local law enforcement. They're looking for people who don't have their children strapped in properly.

Mike Cunnegin is executive director of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. He says 45 children were killed in over 4,000 collisions on the highways in 2006.

Cunnegin says people not only need to be aware of how to use booster seats, but also if the seats have been recalled. State law requires all children be in a car seat until the age of 8. Children from ages 8-16 must be in a restraint or a seat belt at all times.
