(WEST LAFAYETTE) - Police in West Lafayette arrested a Purdue University associate professor Friday after they found a bike that had been reported missing - at the man’s office.

50-year-old Robert Mahorney - who works in visual arts -- told police he'd found the bike in a hallway and thought it was surplus equipment.

The bicycle is worth $1,100, and is owned by the university. Mahorney was arrested on a charge of suspicion of theft. He was released from the Tippecanoe County jail on a $5,000 surety bond.
