Gleaners Receives Donation From Walmart

(UNDATED) - Gleaners Food Bank is getting another windfall to help it recover from the tons of food that were lost when thieves stole copper pipes from freezers, and food spoiled.
Walmart is donating nearly 21-thousand dollars worth of food to gleaners. The donation includes cereal, crackers, canned fruits and vegetables, which gleaners says are necessities for Indiana families in need.
Gleaners CEO Pam Altmeyer says this donation is part of an overwhelming response from the community in both cash and food donations since the thieves hit. She says the food bank is still struggling to get back to where it was before the theft.
New freezer units aren't yet working properly due to the hot, humid weather. She says right now, Gleaners has only one operating freezer that's filled to capacity.
Detectives have told her they have several leads on the thief, but she says the support from the community has made it tough for her to stay angry at the thieves.
Gleaners distributes food to 400 hunger relief charities in 20 Central Indiana counties.
