(LAPORTE) - Prosecutors contend shotgun ammo in the home of a LaPorte man links him to the murder of a co-worker. They’ve begun presenting evidence in the trial of David Howard.

Howard maintains an unidentified man shot Jeremy Bowers in the face as Bowers and Howard sat in a car, then disappeared into a woods across the street.

Police never bought Howard's story, and arrested him a day after the killing on Halloween night 2005.

Howard had called bowers for a lift after his car broke down. They had parked in a driveway between the homes of two of Howard's relatives.

Howard claims the gunman dropped the gun and shells behind a barn at the end of the driveway before fleeing.

His lawyer argues there were no fingerprints on the shotgun and no powder residue on Howard's hands.
