Baby Abandoned By Indiana Teen Near Disneyland
(ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA) - A baby girl whom police say was born to an Indianapolis teenager on vacation in Anaheim, California, remains in good and stable condition.
Anaheim Police Sergeant Rick Martinez says the baby is expected to be fine, despite being left in a trash can at a Denny's near Disneyland after delivery.
The 17-year-old girl accused of giving birth to the girl has been charged in juvenile court with felony child abuse and neglect. The Orange County Social Services Agency has legal charge of the baby.
A spokeswoman says she can't comment on any specific case, but says standard procedure in a child abandonment case would be for a social worker to place a baby with foster parents.
The case would then play out in family court, where a judge would decide whether reunification with the birth mother is in the child's best interests.
