State Pushing Out New Licenses
(UNDATED) - Indiana is unveiling its brand new driver’s license this week at BMV branches throughout the state.
The cards are being made at 21 BMV locations in cities including Indy, Bloomington, and Fort Wayne.
They were created to prevent identity theft, the production of fake ID's, and the underage sale of alcohol and tobacco.
The new version features a digital watermark and "dusty rose" colored strip that is difficult to duplicate.
BMV Spokesman Greg Cook says the new licenses will save the state about 2.5 million dollars over the next six years.
The fresh license costs about 30 cents less to make than the previous version, and it also only takes 45 seconds to produce -- down from the three minutes it takes for current ones.
All BMV branches are expected to be using the new system by the end of August.
