Peterson Wants To Increase Marion Police Force
(INDIANAPOLIS) - It could mean more out of your paycheck if you work in Marion County.
Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson Wednesday says he wants to hire 100 new police officers, as part of his sweeping crime fighting initiative.
Peterson says it will take 90 million dollars to cover the costs of that, as well as to fund pensions and new contracts for the city's police and fire fighters.
To cover that cost, Peterson is asking the city/county council to approve a point 65 percent tax increase.
