(INDIANAPOLIS) - Construction is now underway on the first and only memorial in Indiana to honor fallen members of the National Guard.

Set to be dedicated on Veterans' Day this year, the memorial is located in Washington Park Cemetery on Indy's East Side.

Bret Dodd is the lead architect on the project. He says it's about time the state showed support for its National Guard troops, many of whom have served or are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The cost of the project is estimated at between 700 and 800 thousand dollars. The memorial will be built in phases, as funds become available.

Washington Park East is picking up much of the tab, but Dodd says donations are still needed.
