Large Indiana Drug Operation Shut Down
(INDIANAPOLIS) - They’re calling it one of the biggest drug busts in Central Indiana history.
36 indictments, 19 locations around the area, all part of what federal officials call a large coke and crack dealing operation.
U.S Attorney Susan Brooks says the investigation began last fall, stemming from the months of violence that rocked the northeast side of Indianapolis the round up of suspects began Wednesday. Brooks says this operation would run the coke and crack between Indy and California.
Indy Metro Police are crediting this bust as a sure way to diminish gun violence across the city. More than 20 guns were confiscated, including several AK-47s.
The 19 spots feds and local officials raided were on the Northeast side of Indy, and in rural Poland, Greenwood, and Fishers.
Brooks says while not everyone in the indictments are connected to one another, many of the dealers worked in cooperation. Brooks says, "making big money was the goal of this group."
