(INDIANAPOLIS) - Nearly a third of the IndyGo bus fleet, now outfitted to run cleaner.

Columbus-based Cummins Inc. helped retrofit 48 buses with particle filters that IndyGo officials say will reduce soot and other pollutants. The filters replace standard mufflers and exhaust systems.

Mark Land with Cummins says this is just one way IndyGo is helping clean up the environment around the city. The Indianapolis area is often under a "Knozone Action Day" during the summer, because of the hot temps and pollution.

While Cummins officials say they have no plans at this point to outfit any more buses in the fleet with the filters, they say they are willing to negotiate with IndyGo down the road.
