(NEWPORT) - Truckloads of caustic wastewater continue to roll out of the Army’s Chemical Depot near Newport, in spite of a recent lawsuit filed to stop the shipments.

The Army is neutralizing its VX nerve agent stockpile in Newport and trucking the caustic wastewater for disposal in Port Arthur, Texas.

Army spokesman Greg Mahall says fifty nine trucks have already taken cargo from Newport to Texas without incident. Another 370 truckloads are expected to roll in the next twelve to eighteen months.

A federal lawsuit to stop the shipments has been filed in Terre Haute, but Mahall says the court has not ordered a halt to the shipping.
