Turkey Hunters Have Less To Shoot At

(UNDATED) - Hoosier turkey hunters have begun to take to the woods, but state wildlife biologists say turkey populations are down this season.
A record 13-thousand turkeys were taken by Indiana hunters last year, but wildlife biologist Dean Zimmerman says that total is unlikely this year. Poor weather during the last two brooding seasons has put a dent in turkey populations.
About fifty thousand Hoosiers will hunt turkeys this spring. Zimmerman urges hunters to stay safe by knowing the locations of other hunters. There are twice as many turkey hunters now as there were ten years ago.
