(INDIANAPOLIS) - A 40-year old Indianapolis man accused of abducting and raping a 14-year old girl as she waited for a school bus finally had his initial hearing in court.

DNA evidence led police to Stephen Sides. Sides had been convicted of criminal confinement and spent time in the Indiana Department of Corrections. His DNA was placed into a data base.

When police ran a check a match came up for Sides. It took three and half weeks to make a positive id and arrest a suspect but Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi says the evidence was processed quickly given the size of the data base and the back up at the crime lab.

The judge ordered a blood draw to double check the DNA results from Sides and the crime scene. Court records also indicate police may have finger print evidence.

Sides has until May 11th to get an attorney. Sides' trial date was set for July 16th. He is being held on $100,000 dollars bond and faces up to 140 years in jail if convicted.
