Lucas Puts One Million On Indy Super Bowl Bid
(INDIANAPOLIS) - Forest Lucas, president and owner of Lucas Oil Products, has pledged one million dollars to support Indianapolis’ bid for the 2011 Super Bowl.
The city is seeking to raise between 20- and 25-million dollars in private funds to show the NFL it can host the event.
Lucas, who has already paid to have the new Colts stadium bear his company's name, hopes his pledge will spur others to donate to the cause. Indianapolis 2011 President Fred Glass says donations are now in the "red zone," meaning close to the city's goal.
The NFL will make a decision on a Super Bowl host city at its meeting in Nashville, Tennessee in late May. The city will have 15 minutes to present highlights of the bid.
Colts owner Jim Irsay has pledged a million dollars to the effort as well.
If Indy hosts, it could mean as much as 262-million dollars in economic impact for the city and surrounding area.
