(UNDATED) - April is Financial Literacy and Investor Awareness month.

Secretary of State Todd Rokita says millions of people across the nation have been hit with financial scams, at some level. He adds scammers are preying on younger victims, as well.

Rokita says the junior achievement program in Indianapolis is stepping up to teach kids in middle and high school about how to avoid scams. Rokita says kids have been targets before of the so called "Nigerian e-mail scam."

More than 8,000 middle and high schoolers will go through the financial workshop at the Junior Achievement Center on the city's far north side.
