Indiana And Ohio Capital Continue "Growth Race"

(COLUMBUS) - Last week, the “Columbus Dispatch” reported rival city Indianapolis was gaining ground on the Ohio Capital in terms of population growth, jobs, and economy.

Deputy Mayor Steve Campbell says he was unaware of any official rivalry but admits there may be some friendly competition as the cities are very similar.

One Columbus resident was quoted as saying Indianapolis is a prettier and cleaner city, but getting around is easier in Columbus. Campbell says city officials take great pride on keeping the city clean and admits mass transit is one of the city's shortfalls that is being addressed

The Columbus Regional Airport Authority keeps an eye on Indianapolis and its success in air services. Campbell says the central locations of both cities in the country are an asset and Indianapolis has one of the busiest airports in terms of cargo air service.

Campbell says the outspoken rivalry is a form of flattery, although Indianapolis is in constant competition with every city in America in attracting business and industry.

Campbell adds he would contradict their claim that Indy is catching up with Columbus, stating Columbus may be trying to keep up with us.
