Seniors Dealing With Medicare Co-Pay

(LAFAYETTE) - County homes for senior citizens in Indiana are dealing with medication co-pay problems.

Tippecanoe County Villa Director Deanna Sieber says before this year, Medicaid covered the expense for residents. But she says the new Medicare Part-D does not allow it, so most of the 80 low-income seniors there are stuck with the co-pay.

Sieber says she's talking with representatives of Medicare and Congressman Steve Buyer's office to find a solution.

The Tippecanoe County Council approved $10,000 dollars in taxpayer funds to help cover the cost in the mean time. Howard County's Home Administrator Tom Tolen says he has a similar problem on a smaller scale, with about 20-residents.

He believes the issue is statewide, and the likely solution is legislation changing the state's Medicaid system.
