Daniels Speaks To National Guard Troops
(EDINBURGH) - Governor Mitch Daniels made a stop in Edinburgh Thursday to speak with National Guard troops about how his legislative agenda is faring at the statehouse and what the troops can expect from lawmakers.
Daniels says he'll continue to set lofty goals for changes to the state and says there's no reason not to aim high, even if ideas like building new toll roads ultimately meet with public disapproval.
He says he's still confident about getting more Hoosiers insured and instituting full-day kindergarten. He added he's impressed with the state's National Guard troops, which may see more of their numbers sent to the middle east as part of President Bush's troop surge.
Daniels says Indiana has one of the largest National Guard enrollments per capita of any state in the union, but the forces can always be expanded with qualified volunteers.
