Bill To Help Track Health Problems Of Children and Mothers

(STATEHOUSE) - State legislators have preliminarily approved a bill which aims to keep better track of health problems afflicting young children and their mothers.

The Senate Health and Provider Services Committee approved the legislation, which would create the Prenatal Substance Abuse Commission.

The commission would help treat mothers who've become addicted to drugs or alcohol and support prevention programs to see that fewer moms experience the same difficulties.

The bill also continues the state's birth problems registry through 2017. The registry keeps track of all defects a child born in Indiana suffers prior to the age of three.
