"The Little Child" Affecting Hoosier Weather

(UNDATED) - With golf clubs being used more than snow shovels this winter in Indiana, some residents are starting to wonder if global warming is contributing to the mild weather.

High temperatures have been about 20 degrees above average so far this year in our state. Meteorologist Logan Johnson of the National Weather Service in Indianapolis ties the warmer weather to El Nino, a pattern of warm air flowing in the pacific. As experts continue to debate how greenhouse gases are affecting the thermometer, Johnson says global warming is a reality.

He expects high temperatures to return to normal by the end of the month before rising again because of El Nino. The weather phenomenon has also caused wet weather in the west.
