(STATEHOUSE) - Indiana National Guard Sergeant Joseph Proctor, who died in a suicide bomb attack shortly before he was to return home from Iraq, was awarded the Silver Star in a ceremony at the Statehouse rotunda.
He was wounded by a suicide bomber in May, but was able to shoot the driver of a dump truck loaded with explosives.
This is the first Silver Star given to an Indiana National Guard troop since 1969.
