State Prepares For Possible Pandemic Outbreak

(UNDATED) - Indiana continues to prepare for the possibility of a flu pandemic.
State Department of Health Assistant Commissioner Joe Hunt says the state is using federal grants to train emergency personnel and promote awareness among other Hoosiers. Indiana has created a disease surveillance system involving a network of doctors and hospitals to identify potential outbreaks. State government agencies are also required to have flu pandemic plans in place.
Hunt says there are common sense steps you can take now to prepare for any kind of major emergency. Make sure to have extra food, medical supplies, and a way to communicate with other members of your family.
