(UNDATED) - A low unemployment rate and a strong economy appear to be behind good sales for Indiana retailers. That’s according to Grant Monahan, president of the Indiana Retail Council.

He says sales traditionally increase for the first week after Thanksgiving and then slow. He says the cycle is expected to pick up again just before Christmas.

Women's clothes and toys always top the list. In the past few years electronics have also increased because there are more adult toys for sale.

He says gift cards are also increasing in sales each year. And their use also helps the economy through February as they are redeemed.
