Hoosier Economy Guardedly Optimist

(BLOOMINGTON) - Economists at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business are “guardedly optimistic” about the economy for 2007 predicting slow economic growth in Indiana.

Jerry Conover, director of the Indiana Business Research Center, says construction employment is expected to be strong next year due in part to major moves and the new Honda plant in Greensburg. However, he says it will be offset by manufacturing layoffs at established factories.

He says job growth is expected in Indiana's professional and business services and health and education services sectors. The group says major risks to the forecast include uncertainty about energy prices and the possibility of problems in the housing sector.
