(UNDATED) - The state’s pumpkin crop could be hampered by a case of pumpkin rot.
Some growers say larger pumpkins are in shorter supply this year because of a nationwide outbreak of the fungus. In some cases, crops may be down by as much as 50 or 60 percent from a year ago.
That means the good pumpkins may all be snatched up as much as two weeks before Halloween. Growers say they didn't know of the problem until they began harvesting last month.
