(STATEHOUSE) - Indiana Senate Democrats are proposing a State Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act that would be stricter than the Federal Warn Act.

The caucus would like lawmakers to approve a State Warn Act that would apply to Indiana companies with at least 50 employees. The federal law only requires businesses with 100 or more workers to notify employees and state and local representatives of layoffs or shutdowns 60 days prior to the event.

Democrats say the change would better prepare Hoosier workers for potential job cuts or business closures.
