Meth Down In Indiana, Up With Users
(UNDATED) - With new laws regulating the sale of some ingredients, methamphetamine production in Indiana has gone down about 25 percent, but addiction continues to increase.
Meth is being imported in Indiana from other sources. Sonja Cleveland with the Indiana Criminal Justice institute says the key to the problem now is education and intervention to keep kids from entering the criminal justice system. She notes most inmates in Indiana jails are there for some type of problem related to drug or substance abuse.
Programs to deal with substance abuse cost money and funding is drying up. Only those programs that show results are getting federal money. Cleveland says a Meth Repository is being set up to collect the data needed to help the community and also law enforcement. The data can also be used when applying for grants.
