(COLUMBUS) - A new playground in Columbus is being called the first of its kind.

The one-and-a-half acre playground at Chapman Blackwell Park is designed to be universally accessible, with special emphasis placed on accessibility by handicapped children.

The so-called "Freedom Field" is covered with a rubbery surface and has several ramps leading into and out of the play area, as well as to nearby restrooms.

A sidewalk around the playground is made from a special type of concrete which is designed to limit puddling of water and clean the water it absorbs before dispersing it into the ground.

The playground cost about $600,000 to build.
