(UNDATED) - Electric companies around the state are cranking out more electricity this summer because of the record heat.

Officials are urging consumers to voluntarily cut back by setting the air conditioner to at least 78 degrees or higher, delay running the dishwasher or washing machine until after 10:00pm. Turn off unnecessary lights, and closing curtains and draperies. Microwave ovens, pressure cookers and outdoor grills use less energy than regular stoves or ovens.

Forecasters are predicting a chance of showers and thunderstorms Thursday with a slight cooling trend by this weekend.
