State DNR Lauding Bald Eagle Program

(UNDATED) - Department of Natural Resources officials say the state’s bald eagle population is growing at an impressive rate.
25 years ago, there were no bald eagles in Indiana. Since being brought in from Alaska and Wisconsin, the birds have thrived.
DNR officials have tagged 91 eagles of various ages and say some of the nests now have two generations of birds native to Indiana. The number of eagles nesting in Indiana has increased from year-to-year, as well. 68 nests were located in 2005, versus 62 the year before. In all, more than a third of the state's counties now boast eagle habitats.
