More Rain Equals More Mosquitoes

(UNDATED) - With all the rain we’ve had in recent days, people should be preparing for the onslaught of mosquitoes.

Jim Howell, Veterinary Epidemiologist with the State Department of Health says the rain may initially slow down the culex mosquitoes, the ones that bite mostly at dusk and dawn and can be carriers of the West Nile virus.

Howell says the culex mosquitoes breed in standing water like bird baths and clogged gutters.

It's recommended that you clean these items out. Howell says for standing water you can't get rid of, DT based products, a bacteria, can be used to kill the larvae.
