(INDIANAPOLIS) - Governor Mitch Daniels has signed a proclamation declaring this week as “Emerald Ash Borer Awareness Week”.

The Governor wants Hoosiers to be aware that the destruction of the ash borer is severe.

As campers head into the woods they can unwittingly spread the tree destroyer as they transport firewood. The pest can be found in lumber and other wood products.

Purdue University Exotic-insect Education Coordinator Jodie Ellis says the emerald ash borer in North America is a bit like a kid in a candy store.
