Behrman Murder Trial To Stay In City
(MARTINSVILLE) - The murder trial of the man charged in the death of Indiana University student Jill Behrman will stay in Martinsville.
Morgan Superior Judge Christopher Burnham has rejected John R. Myers' argument to move the trial on the grounds there's been too much publicity for him to get an impartial jury.
Burnham says the true issue is whether the 12 jurors who are actually seated can be unbiased, and he says it'll be his job and that of lawyers on both sides to see that potential jurors are screened appropriately. Besides, Burnham notes publicity in the case has been nationwide. He says there's no reason to think a jury from any other part of the state would be less affected.
A grand jury indicted Myers last month in Behrman's death six years ago. The Bloomington resident disappeared while bicycling.
