State Will Pay For A Riparian Buffer

(UNDATED) - Property owners along waterways affected by the 1999 White River fish kill now have the chance to beautify their land and protect the river at the same time.
The Hoosier Heartland RC&D Council will pay 75% of the costs to plant trees along the riverbank.
The trees act as a riparian buffer to create shade and lower water temperatures. They also reduce erosion and enhance corridors for fish and wildlife movements.
Property owners can be reimbursed up to $1,000 per acres.
