Indiana Contractor Still Missing In Iraq
(LAPORTE) - It’s been nearly a year since an Indiana contractor working in Iraq was taken captive.
LaPorte resident Jeffrey Ake went missing on April 11th of last year and showed up two days later on Al-Jazeera television with his captors pointing assault rifles at him.
FBI Special Agent Wendy Osborne with the bureau's Indianapolis office says it's not uncommon for a hostage to be gone for a year or more. Osborne says the FBI has agents working in Iraq dedicated to Ake's case. She stresses that even thoung Ake has been more in the news following the release of journalist Jill Carroll, the bureau's efforts to find the LaPorte businessman have not waned during the 12-month investigation.
Osborne says as time passes without any word from Ake's captors, it's natural to worry about his safety. Still, she says the FBI has been given no reason to think Ake is dead.
