Unclaimed Property Being Held By State

(UNDATED) - Attorney General Steve Carter reports that the state returned $26-million in unclaimed property to Indiana citizens in 2005.
That number is $5-million more than the year before. On any given day, the state is in custody of about $300-million in unclaimed property. In 2005, the state received $71-million in new unclaimed property.
The property is made up of uncashed checks, stock proceeds, utiltity deposits, insurance premiums or dividends and other similar funds that citizens have ignored for five or more years.
