Active Cookie To Shield Against Identity Theft

BLOOMINGTON—A scientist from Indiana University’s School of Informatics has developed a new way to shield against computer idenity theft and cyber attacks.

Cybersecurity expert Markus Jakobsson has created an active cookie to install on personal computers that will protect against online scams such as pharming and man-in-the-middle attacks. Pharming is obtaining personal or private information through domain spoofing or fake web sites.

The active cookie guards against any information being taken from personal computers to the cyber crooks. More information on cyber attacks can be found at consumer.gov/idtheft.
