Meetings held to legalize Video Gaming Machines

STATE—Proponents of Video Gambling Machines are ramping up to push for a law that makes them legal.

State Excise Police have stepped up efforts to enforce the current law.

Governor Mitch Daniels says he took an oath to uphold the law and the illegal use of video gambling is not exempt from enforcement. Daniels says he's not opposed to making the machines legal. He says he'd take a look at a bill that limits, regulates and reduces the use of these machines.

The Indiana Licensed Beverage Association proposes allowing access to these machines at bars and fraternal organizations to anyone 21 and older.

The group has been holding a series of meetings to educate people about the proposed legislation. The last of those meetings is tonight at the Elks Lodge in Anderson. The meeting gets underway at 6 p.m.

Keep in mind that the number of lobbyists that work on behalf of the gambling industry outnumber the legislators in Indianapolis. The elected State Representatives are under a terrific amount of pressure to pass pro-gambling laws.
