Daniels Speaks about Colgate-Palmolive Plant
Governor Daniels says labor costs led to Colgate-Palmolive’s decision not to build a new plant in Indiana. Daniels says the company wants to build in a right-to-work state, where the workforce wouldn’t necessarily be unionized… and there weren’t enough incentives Indiana could offer to offset that.
Colgate-Palmolive had been considering four states before dropping Indiana from the list, saying it has higher costs than the other three. The company announced in October it would close its toothpaste plant in Clarksville in 2008. Daniels says he's not aware of any official announcement. the company informed the union local in Clarksville of its decision.
