Tornado victims continue to rebuild
DAVIESS COUNTY—A tornado on the afternoon of November 15th devastated parts of Daviess County. Sheriff Jerry Harbstreit says it was like putting homes and businesses in a big blender and releasing debris.
Over 650 Old Order Amish families live in the county. Those are the people who don't use electricity or cars. Harbstreit says they were cleaning up and rebuilding before daybreak the following morning.
He estimates 80-percent of the homes, and businesses with damage had new roofs on before the end of the first day. Harbstreit says hundreds of Amish people from among other places, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania and other parts of Indiana have been working to rebuild homes, barns, achools and businesses.
He believes most people are back in their homes just two weeks after the storm. Daviess County resident Luclille Dillon says one of the Amish schools was totally destroyed by the tornado, but it's already been rebuilt, and a local businessman has pledged to replenish the books and supplies.
You've got to hand it to the Amish! Their name is synonomous with the word 'industrious'!!
