(INDIANAPOLIS) - Now for seven years and running, the Indianapolis International Airport (IND) has been selected as the Best Airport in North America for its size and region in the Airports Council International World's 2018 Airport Service Quality Awards.

This is the eighth year, seventh consecutive year, travelers have named the Indy airport as the best among airports serving 5 to 15 million passengers. In 2018, more than 9.4 million passengers flew out of the Indy airport, setting a new all-time record.

"This award is based on input directly from passengers that have actually flown out of and into the Indy airport, and who have first-hand experience with us," said Mario Rodriguez, executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority. "This in-depth feedback not only has earned us the title over eight years, but it is also crucial to how we continue to invest in the airport and enhance its value to the community in the decades to come."

The ASQ awards are determined based on passenger feedback independently collected by the ACI program on the day that passengers travel. Each airport is rated based on 34 key performance indicators, such as airport access, check-in, security screening, stores, and restaurants and restrooms.

"The Airport Service Quality Awards celebrate the achievements of airports in delivering the best customer experience and represent the highest possible accolade for airport operations around the world," said Angela Gittens, director general of ACI World.

The award categories recognize the achievements of airports of different sizes and different regions of the world. More than 300 airports around the globe elect to participate in the survey to gather information for actionable decisions and operational improvement.

In recent years the Indy airport has also been recognized by J.D. Power, Condé Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure and TripAdvisor for continued excellence in customer service. The airport is ranked high for its open-space floor plan, spoke-and-wheel layout making gate access easy from any point in the airport, and its security check-in location and process.

Inside the terminal, passengers have access to children's play areas, human-powered charging stations for electronic devices, water bottle filling stations, and instant access to fast and free Wi-Fi. The airport features the works of local artists in both permanent and rotating displays, and on the first Friday of the month, musicians or local school performance groups provide travelers with live entertainment - showcasing Hoosier culture as travelers come to Indianapolis. These amenities and features strive to extend Hoosier hospitality even further than the friendliness and courtesy of employees, providing high marks for the airport's environment and ambiance.
