INBiz Helps State Collect an Additional $40 Million this Year

Last updated on Wednesday, December 19, 2018

(INDIANAPOLIS) - INBiz, the state of Indiana’s one-stop business portal, launched in 2016 allowing Hoosier businesses to connect with numerous state government offices on one website.

The one-stop concept has helped businesses stay in compliance with state law by putting numerous reporting requirements on one website. This year, the Attorney General's unclaimed property reporting requirement joined INBiz. As a result, they collected nearly an additional $40 million because more business owners were aware of the filing requirement.

"Each year INBiz continues to grow making it easier for businesses to comply with state law by putting filing requirements in one location," said Secretary Lawson. "The portal has become so popular that many entrepreneurs have started calling asking for advice beyond how to meet state laws and regulations. Many want business advice. To meet this need, I am pleased to announce we have partnered with the Indiana Small Business Development Center."

INBiz has teamed up with the Indiana Small Business Development Center (SBDC) to provide Hoosier entrepreneurs and small business owners with business development advice as they execute many of their business requirements on the one-stop portal. The INBiz call center receives numerous questions from Hoosier entrepreneurs wanting to start a business. Many of the callers are looking for advice such as "what type of business should I form, an LLC or LLP?" This is legal advice the INBiz call center is unable to provide. The INBiz team found this troubling as the goal of INBiz is to provide good government service. The team looked for a solution and found the Indiana SBDC.

"With nearly half a million companies employing 1.2 million Hoosiers, small businesses play an important role in sustaining Indiana's economic momentum," said Elaine Bedel, president of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC). "We're thrilled to partner with INBiz and the Secretary of State's office to continue delivering great government service and helping streamline operations for entrepreneurs seeking to launch and grow their dream businesses."

In partnership with the IEDC, the Indiana SBDC helps Hoosier entrepreneurs looking to start and grow a business by delivering expert guidance and resources like strategy development, market research, business planning, export assistance, and valuation. Now, when an entrepreneur calls INBiz looking for business advice, they are directed to the Indiana SBDC.

So far in 2018, the Indiana SBDC has assisted in 310 new business starts and in the creation of 1,240 new jobs. By partnering INBiz and the Indiana SBDC, the goal is to increase this assistance in 2019.
