Governor Holcomb To Roll Out State Budget Proposal Jan. 10th

Last updated on Thursday, December 20, 2018

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Governor Eric Holcomb will roll out his state budget proposal January 10th.

Holcomb maintains there's more money available than it appears for promised increases in school funding, without having to flatline other priorities.

Holcomb's pledged to increase school spending and take a first step toward raising teachers' pay. The new forecast predicts strong economic growth -- but also sees a big jump in Medicaid costs. Add nearly $300 million to help the Department of Child Services cope with a swelling caseload, and there's only $12 million left in new money for everything else over the next two years.

Holcomb is keeping details under wraps until he unveils his full budget proposal on January 10.

The governor's budget is just a starting point -- the House and then the Senate will craft their own spending plans, and the final version won't be nailed down till the end of April.
