Last updated on Monday, December 17, 2018

(LAKE CO.) - The Lake County Judicial Nominating Commission is beginning the process of selecting a new Superior Court judge. A vacancy on the Lake Superior Court will occur in February 2019.

Judge Diane Kavadias Schneider plans to retire from Superior Court, Civil Division 7. Judge Bruce Parent will transfer to the position from Superior Court, Civil Division 4. Thus, the vacancy will be in the Civil Division, Room 4.

Commission Chairperson and Indiana Supreme Court Justice Geoffrey Slaughter announced applications for the position are available online at courts.in.gov/5470.htm and must be submitted through the Indiana Courts Portal by Monday, January 7, 2019, at 12:00 p.m. CST. The list of applicants will be made available after the deadline, and the public is invited to comment via email at lakejnc@courts.in.gov until Monday, January 14 at 12:00 p.m. CST.

The Commission was established by the Indiana General Assembly in 1973. According to Indiana law IC 33-33-45-27 to 33-33-45-42, the Commission is required to submit to the Governor "the three most highly qualified candidates from among all those eligible" for appointment when a vacancy arises.

The Commission will likely meet in late January/early February to interview the applicants in Crown Point. Details will be announced when determined.
