Last updated on Thursday, December 27, 2018

(SELMA) - Police say an 84-year-old woman was struck and killed while walking along an eastern Indiana highway Christmas night.

The Delaware County Sheriff's Department says the woman was standing in the roadway of four-lane Indiana 32 a short distance from her home near the community of Selma. Officials say she was hit by a pickup truck about 8 p.m. Tuesday east of Muncie.

The woman was identified as Mary Alice Evans. Delaware County deputy coroner Zach Crouch tells The (Muncie) Star Press that Evans likely died instantly from her injuries.

Officials say the driver of the pickup truck stayed at the scene and was cooperating with investigators.
