Thompson formally accepted the award during the IATA Annual Business Meeting and Clinical Symposia in Carmel, Indiana.

"Being inducted into the IATA Hall of Fame was an incredibly humbling experience for me," said Thompson. "This award has never been one of my professional goals in lieu of my efforts with the IATA. I simply wanted to be involved and work to make a difference in the care of Indiana athletes and peer professionals."

Thompson has spent the last 14 years as the Director of Athletic Training Education at IWU where he has been instrumental in developing both an undergraduate and a master's level athletic training program. Thompson also provides athletic training services to the IWU men's and women's cross country teams.

He earned his undergraduate degree from Anderson University, his master's degree from Ohio University and his Ph.D. from Capella University. Thompson has given over 30 professional lecture presentations and has had 10 article publications while also serving the IATA as chair of the Education Committee and chair of the Development Committee. He has also worked internationally with USA Fencing.

"IWU has been an incredible blessing to me by supporting my desire to be active in the field of athletic training," said Thompson. "My hope is that I can continue that pursuit for many years to come through education, clinical practice and professional involvement at the state, district, national and international levels."
