(TERRE HAUTE) — The president of western Indiana’s Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology is stepping down after more than five years.
The private Terre Haute school announced Wednesday that its trustees have accepted President Jim Conwell's resignation, effective Nov. 15.
A school statement said that it was a mutual decision based on the board's concerns and Conwell's "need to focus on a family health issue." He became president in May 2013.
Board chair Niles Noblitt says Conwell had moved the school forward during his tenure. Among the developments he cited is "a new academic building" that's in the works.
Senior Vice President Rob Coons will serve as acting president until the full board meets to discuss a leadership transition plan.
Rose-Hulman has about 2,100 undergraduate students in its science, engineering, and mathematics education programs.
